Patreon heads to SXSW 2025
February 18, 2025
Patreon will be speaking about creative freedom and trends in the creator economy at SXSW this year in Austin. Here's what you can expect from our session.
Defining creative freedom: Building a business without sacrificing vision
Our Chief Operating Officer Paige Fitzgerald will be joined by Patreon creator Joshua Fields Millburn, bestselling author, Emmy-nominated Netflix filmmaker, podcaster, and host of The Minimalist podcast. Drawing from Patreon's forthcoming first-ever State of Create report, Joshua and Paige will take part in an insightful conversation about navigating the evolving creator economy. They’ll examine creators’ reactions to recent industry changes, and discuss the implications for the future of the creator economy.
The session will unpack early signals of what's next for creators and the businesses built to support them. As the report shows, creators across the board are experiencing significant changes in how they connect with their audiences – not due to a decline in creative quality, but because of industry-wide changes in how their creative work reaches communities online.
Paige and Joshua will explore how creators can build sustainable businesses while maintaining their creative vision, even as the mechanisms for sharing and discovering creative work continue to evolve. They'll discuss practical strategies for navigating these changes and building direct, meaningful relationships with their fans.
