Interviewing at Patreon: What to Expect

Interviewing can feel like a big step, and we want you to know what to expect. This guide walks you through our process so you can feel prepared, confident, and focused on showing us your best work. At Patreon, interviews are a two-way street — we’re not just getting to know you, you’re also getting to know us!
Application Review
- Our hiring team will look over your application and we will be in touch if your experience is a match for the role.
- Please be sure your resume is up to date, and include your LinkedIn profile and your portfolio if applicable.
Recruiter Phone Screen (30 minutes)
This will be a conversation with the recruiter about the role. Please expect to discuss your experience and projects, and feel free to ask questions along the way!
- Get familiar with the role you’re applying for
- Be prepared to talk about why you’re interested in Patreon and what you’re looking for both in this role and in the next step of your career
Technical Interview (~1 hour, technical roles only)
This may be a live coding session, case study, or technical deep-dive depending on the role.
Brush up on the relevant skills needed for the interview
- If it’s a live coding round, confirm which languages/tools will be used
- Ask clarifying questions to ensure you fully understand the problem
- Talk through your process so the interviewer understands how/why you’re making decisions
Hiring Manager Interview (30 minutes- 1 hour)
This is a conversation with the hiring manager to dive deeper into your background and how your experience aligns with the team’s needs.
- Be ready to discuss your experiences, projects, and impact in more detail
- Prepare questions about the team, scope, and expectations
- Highlight how your skills and career goals align with the role
Virtual Onsite (2-4 hours)
Depending on the role, there may be a combination of 1:1s, group interviews, or a presentation.
- Brush up on the STAR method for structured answers
- Be ready with real-life examples of your work
